The Hobbit book
"I kill where I wish and none dare resist. I laid low the warriors of old and their like is not in the world today. Then I was but young and tender. Now I am old and strong, Thief in the Shadows!" - Smaug, himself.

"My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!" - Smaug, himself.

"Never laugh at live dragons, Bilbo you fool!" - Bilbo.

"I fear that dragon in my marrow. I like this silence far less than the uproar of last night. Shut the door before it is too late!" - Bilbo.

"Bilbo was now beginning to feel really uncomfortable. Whenever Smaug's roving eye, seeking for him in the shadows, flashed across him, he trembled, and an accountable desire seized hold of him to rush out and reveal himself and tell all the truth to Smaug. In fact he was in grievous danger of coming under the dragon-spell." - narration.

"Fire leaped from the dragon's jaws. He circled for a while high in the air above them lighting all the lake; the trees by the shores shone like copper and like blood with leaping shadows of dense black at their feet." - narration.

"We came over hill and under hill, by wave and wind, for revenge. Then Smaug really did laugh - a devastating sound which shook Bilbo to the floor." - narration.

The Desolation of Smaug
"I am king under the mountain!" -Smaug.

"There is something about you. Something you carry, something made of gold... but far more precious..." - Smaug.

"Do you think flattery will keep you alive?" - Smaug.

"I laid low your warriors of old. I instilled terror in the hearts of men." - Smaug.

"Well, thief! I smell you, I hear your breath, I feel your air. Where are you? Come now, don't be shy... step into the light." - Smaug.

"You think you can deceive me, Barrel-Rider? You have come from Lake Town! This is some sort of scheme hatched between these filthy dwarves and those miserable tub-trading Lakemen, those sniveling cowards with their longbows and Black Arrows! Perhaps it is time I paid them a visit!" - Smaug.

"Revenge? Revenge? I will show you revenge! I am fire! I am... death!" - Smaug,.

"You seem familiar with my name, but I don't remember smelling your kind before. Who are you and where do you come from, may I ask?" - Smaug.

"You will take nothing from me, dwarf." - Smaug.

"I am almost tempted to let you take it, if only to see Oakenshield suffer, watch it destroy him, watch it corrupt his heart and drive him mad... But I think not. I think our little game ends here!" - Smaug.

"What did he promise you, a share of the treasure? As if it was his to give. I will not part with a single coin! Not one piece of it!" - Smaug.

"You were only ever a means to an end. The coward Oakenshield has weighed the value of your life and found it worth nothing..." - Smaug.

"It's Oakenshield. That filthy Dwarvish usurper! He sent you in here for the Arkenstone, didn't he? Don't bother denying it! I guessed his foul purpose some time ago! But it matters not. Oakenshield's quest will fail. A darkness is coming. It will spread to every corner of the land!" - Smaug.

"You have nice manners for a thief, and a liar! I know the smell and taste of dwarves, no one better!" - Smaug.
